Our Magnesium Sulfate Production
When magnesium carbonate is heated, carbon dioxide is released, forming magnesium oxide:
MgCO₃ ⇒ MgO + CO₂
MgO + H₂SO₄(aq) ⇒ MgSO₄·7H₂O
The resulting Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate (MgSO₄·7H₂O) is crystallized and dried. By removing the crystal water, we obtain Anhydrous Magnesium Sulfate (MgSO₄):
MgSO₄·7H₂O (heat) ⇒ MgSO₄
